Cushing's Syndrome – Alcohol-induced The pathophysiology of alcohol-induced pseudo-Cushing's syndrome is poorly understood. It is clear, however, that it is not entirely ACTH-dependent in that ACTH levels are not as high as would be anticipated from the cortisol levels. Withdrawal of alcohol leads to remission of the biochemical abnormalities over a period of days, but the clinical signs may take longer to abate.
